Craft beer growth is coming soon to Chambersburg, PA. Get ready to raise a glass to Berg Brewing who will open in a beautiful 4,000 square foot, two-story building at 100 S Main Street. The first floor will house the heart of the operation: the brew house, main bar area, and comfortable dining seating. Upstairs, a second bar will handle overflow crowds and host exciting events, from live music to indoor recreation leagues (cornhole, darts, anyone?). Both floors boast impressive 16-foot ceilings with stunning original details – think stamped tin ceiling tiles and warm wood floors.
Beer will be produced using a 3.5-barrel setup, allowing them to keep the taproom constantly stocked with fresh brews while remaining agile enough to experiment with a wide variety of styles.
Berg Brewing aims to please with a diverse tap list featuring both European and American classics. Expect to find German/Czech lagers and Belgian styles like their popular Springside Saison. They’re also dedicated to offering a hoppy option for everyone, be it a NEIPA, a West Coast IPA, or a refreshing Pale Ale. Want something hyper-local? Look no further than the Frecon Gold Pale Ale, brewed exclusively with Tahoma hops sourced from less than three miles from the brewery! Future plans include a barrel program specializing in wild-fermented beers and unique, old-world European styles.

The dining experience won’t just be about beer. They’ve partnered with a talented chef (stay tuned for a public announcement!) who will create a unique menu featuring delicious “fine dining” entrees and tempting shareables for the bar. With formative training at Le Cordon Bleu in Pittsburgh, appearances on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay,” and experience at local restaurants, this chef promises to elevate your brewery experience.
The brewery will call a historic 19th-century building home. Rebuilt after the burning of Chambersburg in 1864 (one of the only Northern towns burned by the Confederacy during the Civil War), the building once housed a hardware store named “Sherk’s.” Located next door is the soon-to-be-completed “Neighbor’s Food Hall,” an exciting addition to the community offering food vendors, shopping, music, and family-friendly entertainment.

Berg Brewing is a family affair, with Kyle Underkoffler leading the brewing operations alongside his wife Kayla. Kyle’s brother Adam Underkoffler and his wife Beth are also founders and owners. Rounding out the team are Dan and Ali Crist, and Jason and Becki Patterson. With expertise from various industries, this passionate group brings a wealth of experience to the brewing world.
Kyle, the mastermind behind the brews, has been homebrewing for nearly 15 years and has honed his skills at several commercial breweries, including Roy Pitz (Chambersburg) and Florida Ave Brewing (Tampa). Before his brewing career, Kyle served as a Marine musician from 2007 to 2011, where his passion for craft beer blossomed. After the Marines, he majored in Marketing at the University of Tampa and continued to perfect his brewing skills through a dedicated homebrew club.
The name “Berg” pays homage to Kyle’s family roots. “Unterkoffler,” their German last name, translates to “under-head” and reflects their ancestors who farmed in the Tyrolian Alps. Berg, meaning “mountain” in German, connects the brewery to both their heritage and the local landscape. Plus, it’s a catchy one-syllable name – easy to remember and easy to order another round!
As Berg Brewing’s opening date approaches, more information about its beer offerings, taproom amenities, and special events will be revealed. Keep an eye on the brewery’s Facebook and Instagram channels and website for the latest updates.
