East End Brewing Company has released its first-ever seltzer. Appropriately named, “G&T”, this is a gin and tonic inspired seltzer.
“Big props to the brew-side crew here on this one, for stepping outside their comfort zone, and for taking the time to REALLY deliver on this project”, says East End Owner Scott Smith
He continues, “It’s quite a departure for us, and I don’t know if it’ll even be remotely popular. But I’m proud of the innovation and approach we’ve taken that resulted in this “legitimate” beverage that still fits in with who we are.”
The details:
The brewery wanted to make something they relate to a bit more, which meant not just another fruited, alcohol-containing drink. They wanted something special, something rooted in the classics that we could get excited about.
The seltzer was started off with a couple of hundred pounds of juniper berries, dried orange peels, and a handful of other botanicals that you find in the finest gins of the world. Then they introduced a second set of flavors common to tonic water, gentian root for bi&bitterness, and some fresh lime to bring it all together in a brightened final form.
After more than 12 months of research, two dozen bench trials with different combinations, processes, and ingredients, the brewers are excited about the results.
G&T is 7.5% ABV, gluten-free, and available in 4-packs of 12oz cans, and they’re available for walk-in sales at the brewery right now. They’re also available on East End Brewing’s website for Curbside Pickup, and they’re part of East End’s FREE Saturday Home Delivery program (if you’re in one of the 42 Pittsburgh-area
zip codes they cover.
