Ellwood City Explosion Destroys Brewpub

An explosion destroyed The Time Brewpub in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, shortly after midnight on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The brewpub was located in a former elementary school building on Mount Vernon Drive, which also housed other businesses.

The blast caused significant damage and destroyed a portion of the building, centered primarily on the brewpub. No injuries were reported, as the explosion occurred in the early hours, and no one was believed to be inside the building at the time.

The Ellwood City fire chief and neighboring residents reported hearing and feeling the explosion from a distance, with one resident noting the debris that flew onto their street. A possible gas leak is suspected as the cause. The investigation is being led by the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, with assistance from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Columbia Gas and other utility companies were also on the scene.
