If you’ve been drinking craft beer long enough you know how much collaboration goes on in the industry. Whether it is breweries collaborating on a beer or sharing ingredients. And in that theme of collaboration we are excited to share the news of the York City 6!
The York City 6 is a new group comprised of the six breweries of York, Pennsylvania. The breweries involved are all 6 York city breweries; Collusion Tap Works, Crystal Ball, Gift Horse, Liquid Hero, Mudhook, and Old Forge.
Plans released by The York City Six include a series of beers with one dollar of each pint going to a local non-profit. This first iteration will be called The York City Six Vol.1: Pilsner. The group of brewers believes the pilsner style will be enjoyed by beer drinkers of all kinds in York County, but still has their own spin on the recipe.
The pilsner will be exclusively sold at each of the six breweries and will be limited in quantity, only one barrel per tap room. The beer is set to release mid-Winter, but ideas for volume two are already in the works. Each new version in the Volume series will be brewed in a new location, giving the brewers a chance to work on a different system with their team of experienced professionals.
Along with brewing together, the group recognizes the opportunity to bring new visitors and long-time natives into the city. “We don’t see each other as competition. We all do the same thing but with our own unique atmosphere and offerings. Customers often ask what brewery they should stop at next, and I always list each one of our establishments and what makes them special. We support each other through our recommendations, and we all want our customers to visit each other.” Says Corey Wolfe, who worked at Mudhook Brewing Company for three years, and finds his new role in this group as York City craft beer advocate.
Christian Quinlivan, co-owner of Liquid Hero sees potential for the city he grew up in. “We should all live by a few simple principles, one of them is taking care of our neighbors, and these breweries are our neighbors.” He sees this as the “What next?” moment for not only the breweries, but other businesses in the city. “Everyone should be thinking about what’s next, and this is a first step to inspire others to start thinking about that question.”
We are excited to see the York City 6 come to life and the continued growth of Pennsylvania beer. Make sure to follow them on Facebook to see all the excitement coming from this new group!
