Lavery Brewing (Erie, PA) and Sierra Nevada, craft beer powerhouse out of California, have collaborated on a beer called “Lavery Landbier”.
This unique pairing goes back to when Jason Lavery (owner of Lavery Brewing ) met Sean Lavery (surprisingly…no relation) when Sean was working for Southern Tier and moved to upstate NY, around 2015. The two aren’t closely related, however both families do come from the same region of Ireland.
In 2017 Sean moved to California to fill the brewmaster position at Sierra Nevada after Steve Dressler retired.
Jason was recently visiting California for a family wedding and as such reached out to Sean to re-connect. Sean suggested a bit more of a connection, instead suggesting the two brew a beer together. And as such the idea of “Lavery Landbier” started to formulate.
This special collaboration is brewed as a style of amber lager called “Landbier”. If you’re not familiar with the style, Landbier roughly translates to “country lager” and is a sort of terroir based approach to lager-as many local ingredients at possible.
“Lavery Landbier” uses admiral malts, experimental hop #01490, and lager yeast. The beer will clock in at 5% ABV and 20 IBU, and will result in a smooth drinking lager.
The best part? The beer is registered in Pennsylvania! Meaning it will be delivered and released at Lavery Brewing Company for locals to enjoy. The brewery is scheduling a November release.
We will continue to update with further details as the beer release date gets closer.
