Back in August, we brought you the news that Powell’s Valley Farm Brewery is looking to open a brewery in Lykens, in an old train station building dating back to 1892.

Jim Boothe, the owner of Powell’s Valley Farm Brewery, is heading up the fundraising. The plan is to create a co-op of businesses located at the old train station. Along with the taproom, they want to create a general store and are looking to partner with other businesses to provide a small cafe, a small area for bicycle repair, and some retail space.

Their goal is to raise $24,000, with purchases from these funds to include (but not limited to): brewing equipment, licensing, and general improvements to the station. If all goes to plan, the brewery expects to open to the public by mid-year of 2021.

Powell’s Valey Farm Brewery believes in putting the community first, and their first goal will be to support the town of Lykens and its surrounding community, by giving back time and resources to local groups and projects. They have also committed to ensuring the historic integrity of the building is retained, inside and out. In addition to the taproom and shops, Jim will devote time to reworking the current coal museum displays and adding to the history of Lykens and the railroad. The displays will have a prominent, visible presence in the station.

The building’s general look and feel will be based on the idea of a vintage country store, and it will showcase local foods, local products, and art by local and regional artists and small business leaders. The building will include an outdoor patio where visitors can enjoy the beautiful weather that the valley has to offer.

The brewery, general store, and cafe will all be dedicated to using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and environmentally friendly dinnerware, packaging, and more.
