Back in March 2021, we brought you the news that Arboretum Trail Brewing was the latest brewery to start beer distribution around Pittsburgh. We are now happy to announce that they now have found a brewing location.
The brewery will be opening in the former Couch Brewing building, in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood located at 1351 Washington Blvd, with an estimated opening of Spring 2022. We spoke with owner/brewer Ben Steffen about the new location and his plans for the former home of Couch Brewery.
The location will offer 15 draft taps, with at least 10-12 earmarked for Arboretum Beer, while also providing a cider and/or a mead option as well as possibly a few guest taps. Ben told us that the plan is to install a complete lineup of side pull taps, like a few other breweries in western PA.
In total, the space will fit around 80 people, including 12-14 seats at the large bar. While there won’t be a kitchen onsite, Ben said he plans to get rotating food trucks for customers to enjoy.
“I want people to know that even though Couch Brewing isn’t there anymore, we are looking to carry over the vibe of ‘Everybody is welcome’. We want people to come and feel comfortable, something the location is known for.” – Ben Steffen, Owner/Brewer of Arboretum Trail Brewing.
Ben will be bringing his original 3.5 BBL brewhouse, plus all of his fermenters. In addition to those, he will be taking over the fermenters that Couch Brewing had been previously operating from.
With this increased production space, He also wanted to expand Arboretum Trail Brewing’s portfolio, by starting a sour program, something he has had a passion for. They plan to offer a large number of lagers, big barrel-aged stouts, and barleywines.
For now, Ben’s plan is to have a lot of beer ready to go, and he will start brewing at the new space once the license is transferred. Since the brewery has been releasing cans for the last 10 months, they will offer cans right away.
Make sure to follow Arboretum Trail Brewing on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the taproom progress. We will follow up once the brewery is ready for its grand opening.
