Brewery Review: Here & Now Brewing Company (Honesdale, PA)

Here and Now Brewing Co resides in a beautiful 150-year-old brick building in downtown Honesdale PA. Allaina Propst, one of the owners, had spent about three years restoring the building before they were able to open its doors in July of 2017. “Nothing in here was salvageable” says Allaina. “We had to go through this building one room at a time”. The end result of all that hard work is a brewery with a unique rustic charm.

Located in the heart of downtown Honesdale, the brewery resides in a historical, red brick building. When Allaina was considering locations, it was perfect. She wanted to keep everything as local as possible. The only problem was that it needed a ton of work. So, little by little, they had to renovate from top to bottom. Some of the building materials that were able to be salvaged got turned into things like their bar top. The end result was a comfortable atmosphere for a brewpub.

Here & Now has a rotating selection of about 14 beers on draft. You can also grab a bite to eat from their scratch kitchen. Chef Ben Cooper uses food sourced from local farms and most of their ever changing menu.

The brewery describes itself as a place that “offers beer and food inspired by our surroundings and whatever ideas float through our heads”. That definitely comes through in their offerings. Here & Now puts out some great pale ales. But they really like to focus on their farmhouse style Saisons, a beer that compliments the feel of this place with its earthy and spicy characteristics.

During this visit, the following beers were on tap:

Taplist

Below are a few of the beers that were sampled…

Secret Epicenter5.3% American Pale Ale – A slightly hazy and clean pale ale with notes of citrus and very slight dankness. Just enough hops and bitterness to balance out the light malt.

Le Dale – 4.9% Saison/Farmhouse – A light and refreshing farmhouse Saison. Not too much funkiness but there’s some hint here. More of the Belgian style.

Bike Ride Epiphanies6% American Pale Ale – Brewed with Citra, Mosaic and Galaxy and fermented with a London yeast. Fruity and hoppy with a body that holds on to its bitterness. The hop aroma comes through well with some stone fruit and citrus flavors.

Check them out for yourself. If you’re a fan of saisons and hazy pale ales, you won’t be disappointed.
