What’s better than a beer made with 100% Pennsylvania ingredients? When that beer also goes to supporting an amazing mission. Which is exactly what you get with “Brooks Drift” Wheat Ale that was recently released by Groove Brewing in Scranton, PA.
As the Untappd profile describes it, Brooks Drift is “a smooth easy drinking American Pale Wheat beer. Light gold and refreshing. This beer is perfect with pierogis, pizza, and wing bites. First brewed in Scranton Pennsylvania in honor of all the hard working coal miners that put down roots and built the small towns of Northeast Pennsylvania.” The beer features Wheat, Malt, and Barley from CNC Malt (Fenelton, PA) and Cascade Hops from Avery Mountain Bines & Twine (Tunkhannock, PA).
The branding, labels, social media, and messaging around Brooks Drift are about the people that mined coal from the ground in Pennsylvania and powered more than 150 years of American prosperity. In addition, the beer serves as a way to shine a light on the “Underground Miners” organization. A group that was formed in 2002 and is working towards refurbishing the Brooks Mine at Scranton’s Nay Aug Park. The project will open as a public mine tour on August 12th, 2023. More details on the project can be found here.

Guests who want to help support this project can also donate to the cause. As of this writing the beer is released exclusively at Groove Brewing, but other breweries are encouraged to join the release in the future.
