Dancing Gnome And Pittsburgh Brewing Team Up To Bring Back Classic Beer

Dancing Gnome and Pittsburgh Brewing Company have teamed up to bring back an old classic: Robin Hood Cream Ale.

Robin Hood is 4.5% abv cream ale brewed originally by PBC in the mid-1970s. Back then, the beer was first released in steel cans. Original fans of the beer have not forgotten its smooth and satisfying taste. After consistent social media requests in recent years, the Pittsburgh Brewing team decided to collaborate with a local craft brewery to resurrect it for a limited time.

The new cans are the work of a local Pittsburgh design firm Top Hat, and include the quote from the original can, “Hear Ye, Men of Adventure, Join Robin Hood for a Truly Smooth, Satisfying Cream Ale”.

Owner/Brewer Andrew Witchey, who had been wanting to approach PBC for a while about a collaboration, worked with Pittsburgh Brewing Company’s longtime brewmaster Mike Carota and brewed 20 bbl of the beer.

We spoke with Andrew Witchey, who had this to say:

“It was awesome to collaborate with not only a well-known beer brand but also an Iconic Pittsburgh specific brand. We’re both super proud of this city and the beers we respectively create, and it’s clear that they have as much respect for us as new, small craft producers as we have for them as a larger regional brand that’s been around for over a century. The beer turned out great, and I’m eager to give people a taste of this local legend.”

Robin Hood Cream Ale is just the first time-honored Pittsburgh Brewing recipe to be resurrected. The company is considering more collaborations with other local craft breweries in the future.
