GoTab: The Future Of Buying Beer (Plus Evil Genius Case Study)

GoTab, Inc., is helping large and mid-sized restaurants, breweries, bars, and other venues, run lean, profitable operations while making guests even more satisfied.

GoTab uniquely allows guests to order and pay through a server (without a smartphone), or order and pay directly from their own mobile phones, or blend the two experiences all on one tab, through its easy-to-use mobile point-of-sale. The guests never have to download a mobile app or create a password, and still experience a contactless ordering process.

GoTab gives guests the ability to manage their own tab and control their own dining experience. Flexible payments are of course available, with their system allowing both full pay and split pay options, making it easy for guests to share a tab and settle the bill straight away. Recently the company partnered with Evil Genius Brewing in Philadelphia and performed a case study. (Details below)

Case Study Overview “A Beer To The Table In Two Minutes”

The Philadelphia-based Evil Genius is known for its very silly beer names for very serious beers. They use GoTab to make getting a beer easy and accessible. With the help of GoTab’s fast and flexible restaurant commerce platform, Evil Genius has expanded its
footprint in Center City’s Rittenhouse and Northern Liberties neighborhoods.

The Situation

In late 2020, as the pandemic, cold weather, and indoor dining restrictions started limiting operations, the brewery team decided to pivot and develop new ways to bring its beer to customers. The move was also intended to retain as many jobs as possible for front-of-house staff and make beers and merchandise more accessible.

The Solution “Seamless Set-Up Increases Sales”

With no indoor dining, no delivery available, and cold weather hindering outdoor dining, Evil Genius, was able to fully leverage GoTab’s unique takeout features to generate new revenue streams with the Kwik-E Beer Pop-Up Shops. They took advantage of temporary leases in vacant buildings and offered an inventory of 6-pack bottles, cans, growlers, and branded merchandise, for contactless takeout via GoTab’s highly customizable cloud-based system.

“The pop-ups were meant as an experimental project and our first foray into retail opportunities. On the first weekend, we had promising results and were able to double our current revenue in just a few days.” — Trevor Hayward, Co-Owner of Evil Genius

With GoTab, they launched their Kwik-E Beer Pop-Up shop seamlessly without having to worry about bulky technology burdens. They also kept their staff employed as their Spruce Street and Northern Liberties locations were up and running very quickly. “On the first weekend, we had promising results and were able to double our current revenue in just a few days,” said co-owner Trevor Hayward. “Guests gravitate towards the QR codes as they know it will get a beer to them much faster.”

With this service, businesses can get real-time sales performance data tracking sales per hour, top-selling, and high-margin items, product mix, and customer feedback. These out-of-the-box reports are yet another way for GoTab to help hospitality operators run efficient and profitable operations, as well as adjust and optimize business operations as needed.
