Guinness To Close Baltimore Open Gate Brewery In November, Leaving One U.S. Location

Guinness is closing its Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe, Maryland, bringing an end to its Baltimore-area brewing and hospitality operation after more than eight years. The closure leaves one remaining location in for Guinness in the US, located in Chicago, Illinois.

The brewery, which opened in 2018, was Guinness’ first brewing presence in the United States since 1954. The $90 million project brought the Irish beer brand back to the US and became a destination for beer fans, food, tours, and special events.

According to the announcement, the brewery has welcomed more than two million visitors and brewed more than 700 different beers since opening. It also became known for limited-edition releases, including beers tied to Maryland’s Preakness Stakes, and its Baltimore Blonde.

The closure will impact employees who worked at the location, including 174 Aramark employees who supported the brewery’s hospitality operations. The decision comes as breweries across the industry continue to face rising costs and changing consumer habits.

The final day open to the public will be Sunday, November 1, 2026. Until then, Guinness is inviting visitors to stop by for one last pint and say goodbye to a brewery that brought a piece of Ireland’s brewing tradition to Maryland.

Guinness confirmed the news in a post on social media, sharing the following message:

“After more than eight years in Baltimore, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery will serve its final pint on Sunday, November 1st, 2026.

Since opening in 2018, we’ve welcomed more than two million visitors and shared Guinness brewing, innovation and hospitality with the Baltimore community.

Most importantly, we want to recognize our incredible brewing and hospitality team, whose passion and care have been at the heart of this place from the very beginning.

Over the years we’ve brewed more than 700 different beers and raised countless pint glasses every St. Patrick’s Day.

Through it all, we’ve been honored to support the Baltimore organizations that make this city what it is. That commitment will outlast our final pour, because Baltimore has always made us feel at home.

We’re so grateful for the memories, the friendships and the years we’ve shared.

To everyone who walked through our gates, raised a glass, shared a meal, celebrated a milestone or simply made the brewery part of your life: thank you.

For the next month, join us for one final toast. Wed love to see you before our last call.

Sláinte.”
