Levity Brewing Co. in Indiana and Altoona has partnered with the Blairsville Underground Railroad History Center to shine a light on the extraordinary people and rich history of Indiana County within the broader Underground Railroad story. The “Freedom Seeker Series” are four unique beers (2 IPA’s, a Scotch Ale, and a German Hefeweizen) being released on Saturday, June 26th.
Can art briefly tells the stories of two Freedom Seeker’s courageous escape from enslavement and journey to freedom or Conductor’s story as they helped them along the Underground Railroad’s network to freedom.
The UGRR History Center has identified nearly 100 “Conductors” in Indiana County as well as countless brave men, women, and children who escaped. Every one of them can move and inspire us in great ways. There are so many more stories to tell. Our hope is this beer series helps the History Center to keep sharing these stories.
The 16-ounce beer cans will feature the following key individuals (pictured left to right below); Lewis Johnston, George Atcheson, Anthony Hollingsworth, and Catherine Black. We encourage you to visit the Levity Freedom Seekers website to learn more about their stories and the impact they had.

Four-packs of the Freedom Seeker Beers will be available for purchase at the launch event on June 26th at the Indiana, PA brewery. The event, which runs from 3:00 – 9:00 PM in the upstairs Loft will feature a mini-exhibit from the Blairsville museum, representatives from the museum sharing more of the rich stories in person, and music by the incomparable George Byich of Black Cat Moan.
If you plan on attending, join their event on Facebook to continue to keep up with updates regarding the release.
