Back in March of this year, Second Sin Brewing had a Cinderella run in our annual PA Beer Bracket tournament. The Bucks County brewery faced some heavy hitters along the way, making it all the way to the Final Four breweries.
During their run, they would make it to the “Sweet 16” round where they would face up against Pennsylvania brewing icon Tröegs Independent Brewing. They would go on to pull off the upset “despite being dwarfed by such a giant brewery” as Second Sin shared with us.
Soon after this competition, John Trogner (Troegs co-owner) would contact Second Sin to introduce himself in only the best way possible, over beers of course. This initial meeting led to a friendship, which spawned their first collab inspired by that matchup called “Lumbering Dwarf”, a 7.2% Cold IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe.
As Second Sin goes on to confirm during that “first meeting, we talked about Cold IPA, among other things, and specifically how we approach them, as Tröegs had not yet made one at that time. We settled on a base of American Pilsner Malt, Flaked Rice, and Chit Malt, to result in a dry, crisp body that lets the dank and tropical characteristics of the hops to shine through.”
This beer will make its debut on Friday, September 16th, during the Second Sin Oktoberfest lager and party. Guests are invited to join them at their brewery in Bristol, PA to enjoy some traditional, and not so traditional beer. The party starts at 2:00 and will feature a special Oktoberfest inspired menu from Eat This Jawn, glassware release, and more!
