A new study from Clever, a Real Estate review site, has used data to rank the best beer cities across the United States. Using all this data, they have ranked Pittsburgh as number 1 overall.
The report analyzed various beer-related metrics, including breweries and bars per capita, average beer price, Yelp ratings, and Google Trends data.
Below are the specific metrics that Clever analyzed:
• Breweries per capita
• Average price of beer
• Affordability of domestic beer
• Affordability of imported beer
• Average Yelp rating of breweries
• Average Yelp rating of bars
• Bars per capita
• “Beer passion” score based on Google Trends data
So how exactly did Pittsburgh score?
• Pittsburgh has 2.3 breweries per 100,000 residents, 77% more than the average city of 1.3
• The average cost of a beer in Pittsburgh is $4.40, which is less than the national average of $4.78
• Google trend data passion score was 95.7/100 for beer, compared to the national average of 64.4 (higher than Pittsburghers like pizza!)
The study goes on, “Pittsburgh also has a powerful passion for beer. The city scored a near-perfect 96 out of 100 in our Google Trends metric, which measures how often residents search the web for beer-related terms. That includes ranking No. 1 nationally for searches of “stout.”
Not only is Pittsburgh the beer capital of the U.S., but it also trounced its intrastate rival, with Philadelphia coming in at No. 29.”
