Oakbrook Brewing Company, the craft brewery located in Reading’s historic Oakbrook Fire Station, has acquired the original Deppen Brewing Company brand.
Deppen Brewing Company was founded in 1879. When Dr. William Deppen took over operations of his late father-in-law’s Spring Garden Brewery in Reading. He had no idea that it was the start of the Deppen Beer legacy that would grow, and survive through prohibition, to become one of Reading’s largest and most successful breweries well into the 1930’s. The brand last served their beer in 1936, and after an 83 year break, will be pouring again from taps!
Oakbrook has begun to write the next chapter for Deppen Brewing, and has secured the brand. They plan to revive the traditional beer styles that were once flowing out of taps in Reading. Oakbrook states they wanted to revive the Deppen brand so they could market another brand that offers cleaner, more traditional beers.
Deppen Cream Ale, will be the first offering available from the Deppen lineup, so look for it at local restaurants and bars around New Year’s Day.
