Ship Bottom Brewery Continues Expansion In Pennsylvania; Plans To Open In Swarthmore

New Jersey-based Ship Bottom Brewery continues its growth in Pennsylvania as they look to open a taproom in Delaware County. The brewery recently received zoning permission for a blendery, taproom, and beer garden from the town of Swarthmore.

The new location for Ship Bottom will be labeled as the “Blendery & Barrel House” and will be located at 5 Park Avenue in Swarthmore. According to Ship Bottom’s website, this space has a scheduled opening date of late Fall 2021.

According to the approved zoning application, the brewery will “operate a blendery that will manufacture & package beer/cider for on/off-site consumption. Operate an indoor retail tasting room and outside beer garden”.

As the application states, the blendery will not have wort production equipment but instead will get the wort from an offsite location or a contract brewery. They will then perform the rest of the production, including fermentation, blending, and packaging. Ship Bottom will ferment and age this wort in open-air fermenters and/or 53-gallon oak barrels.

The new tasting room will have a small bar and seating area for customers, and an outside beer garden with picnic tables. Customers will also be able to purchase to-go 4-packs, 6-packs, and cases to go.

The brewery already operates two beer gardens in Pennsylvania, one in Ambler at 133 South Main Street partnering with Wake Coffee Roasters, and one in Media at the Linvilla Orchards at 137 West Knowlton Road.
