Ever since announcing plans to open a tasting room in downtown Jeannette, Sobel’s Obscure Brewery has been hard at work making that space a reality. And the time has finally come for them to officially open their doors at 500 Clay Avenue. This new brewery and taproom is just around the corner from the brewery’s original warehouse and outdoor space at 108 South 4th Avenue.
The brewery’s grand opening of the space will take place on Friday, October 21st from 4:00 to 10:00 PM.
Originally built in 1904, the 18,000 sq/ft building that Sobel’s purchased was formerly a department store, hardware store, and most recently an antique shop. The brewery and taproom will be located on the first floor, which is roughly 6,000 sq/ft and still has the original tin ceilings and hardwood floors.
The taproom is quite spacious, with a capacity for over 250 guests with 20 draft lines at the bar, which has seating for 15. For food, Sobel’s is partnering with local food trucks as well as three local restaurants will be offering table-side delivery. Guests can also purchase cans to-go in six-packs and four-packs, as well as growlers.
Outside, Sobel’s purchased the building next door and tore it down to make way for a huge outdoor patio. By 2023 they plan to have a plethora of outside seating for guests to enjoy as well. Phase two of this location will be renovating the upstairs. In the plans is an overflow bar, banquet hall for event rental, and more.
In addition to the new space, the brewery has also increased its original brewing capacity. They have upgraded from their original 1BBL system to a new 7BBL brewhouse to accommodate the increased demand.
