Cartel Brewing Announces Expansion With Second Location In Manheim Called “The Safe House”

Big news for Cartel Brewing fans, there’s a second location on the way! The brewery is expanding with a second location in downtown Manheim, PA, called The Safe House, at 26 E High Street. They are estimated to open in the Fall/Winter of 2025.

The Safe House will be an extension of Cartel Brewing. “They are elevated dive bar, a public house, “a local spot that is welcome to all, a tribute to our past and present that will be part of our future, a concept that is lacking but desired, a small footprint in an underserved part of our great county, where affordable bar food and beverage takes priority, where prices may flirt with more nostalgic times, where over 8,000 locals can call home and many more can come visit whenever they please.” – Cartel Brewing

Why Manheim?

Manheim was in the list of top places to move to in Lancaster County, especially among people who are buying homes and putting down roots.

“There’s not a ton in Manheim yet, but that’s what makes it exciting. We saw a chance to be part of a town that’s growing and changing—and to help shape what it becomes.”, said Adam Chamberland, owner of Cartel Brewing.

The building they chose is one of the oldest in Manheim, its original firehouse. Cartel is working closely with the town’s historical board to rehab the building the right way. The township has even gone out of its way to make the process easier and has offered help to support the project.

What to Expect at The Safe House

The Safe House will be cozy and casual with room for about 40–60 guests. The plan includes a 14-seat bar, a small food menu (think paninis, smash burgers, maybe Philly cheesesteaks), and possibly some outdoor seating. You might even see $2–$3 pints on tap—something Cartel really wants to bring back to the area.

There won’t be brewing on-site, but beer will come fresh from Cartel’s main brewery in Lancaster, at 920 Landis Avenue.

The beer list will focus on easy-drinking styles like lagers and IPAs, with seasonal and rotating taps based on what locals want. There might also be some fun blended beers and guest taps in the mix.

When’s It Opening?

If all goes to plan, The Safe House will open later this year, sometime around November or December. Most of the plans are finished, and once the permits are approved, the build-out will begin.

It’s clear the town of Manheim is excited to have them, and Cartel is just as excited to be there. “We got a great space in a great location, and the support from the town has been amazing. We really think this could be something special.”, said Adam Chamberland
