Broken Goblet Blurs The Lines (And Label) With A New Exclusive IPA

Broken Goblet will be releasing a new beer this Friday 11/15, and Breweries in PA was given the very first tastes directly out of the brite tanks this past weekend!

“Once Invincible” is a more modern take on the classic west coast style IPA, forgoing the typical bitterness and malt forward profile for a more fruity and easy drinking version of the style. The beer was brewed with apollo, citra, chinook and centennial hops, dry hopped with citra and mosaic, and clocks in just under 7% ABV.

We asked co-owner Mike LaCouture about the name, the label, the weird blurriness, and typical for him (and them), we got a multi-layered response. “On the nose, it’s the band Tool. The name and label style is direct from their latest album. We love them, it’s pretty well known.”

The name, while it comes from lyrics to one of the songs, has more to do with this style of beer. Says LaCouture, “the west coast IPA, really the progenitor for all IPAs, is sometimes looked down upon in some circles, a once invincible style of beer that has now been ‘OK Boomer’d’ to the sidelines. We belong to beer groups where more than a few folks say that SNPA (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) is ‘crap’ and all we can think about is how did we get to this place in beer culture. So, we decided to go at it but blur the lines a little between the haze craze flavor profile and the traditional, very distinct, very see through WCIPA.”

“There is another layer to the name, but we will have to leave it there”, says LaCouture through a wink and a smile. Apparently they worked with another brewer on this recipe and the actual brew, but he is incredibly tight lipped beyond that.

Once Invincible releases on draft Friday, November 15th, with cans potentially coming in the next few months.
