If you follow the Breweries In PA social media pages it is no secret that we have deemed 2022 the #YearOfTheLager. We don’t have any official science behind it (that is for people much smarter than us) but it is no secret that the industry has completely embraced lager beers over the haze filled juice bombs.
We understand there is room in the market for both beers, but with the rise in side pull taps, horizontal lagering tanks and so much more…it’s evident that the milkshake IPA line life is dead, and #YearOfTheLager has begun!
And it’s in that spirit that we are excited to share the latest news from the folks at Dancing Gnome in Pittsburgh. The brewery recently announced the beginning of “Kölsch Service” where the brewery will serve their Kölsch beer in special Stange glasses. They then place those glasses in a Kranz and serve them to you. They plan to offer the service starting March 15th, 2022 and will be available every day for bar patrons and on Tuesdays for the entire taproom.
See the announcement below.
Now if you are a beer purist (and not reading this article) you are going to tell us “Kölsch beers are ales, not lagers!”. And we know that. But as you also know Kölsch’s are conditioned at cold temperatures just like lagers are….so you know what? It counts!
If you’re also a beer purist you may (or may not) know that Kölsch Service is not something new. Much like the (ever polarizing) milk pour, it gets its roots from overseas. As you can see in this article “a Kölsch service is the way you would experience the Kölsch beer in the city in which it was brewed in Cologne, Germany”
We for one cannot wait to enjoy the service. Cheers!
