Helltown Brewing Debuts Special “412 Food Rescue Brew”

Sales of the limited-edition IPA will support 412 Food Rescue’s work to fight food waste and hunger.

Helltown Brewing and 412 Food Rescue have collaborated on a limited edition, low-ABV IPA called “412 Food Rescue Brew,” available now.

This 6.0% ABV Hazy IPA was brewed with oats and wheat for a pillowy mouthfeel that still finishes light and refreshing on the palate. El Dorado, Galaxy, Centennial, and Trident hops were added for bright lemon and grapefruit aromas with a flavorful tropical mango and orange finish. Every $1 from a pour or sale of a 4-pack of the brew in Helltown Brewing taprooms and a portion from distribution sales will be donated to 412 Food Rescue.

On May 12, a Beer Pairing event at 412 Food Rescue’s Good Food Project in Millvale will pair rescued hors d’oeuvres and delicious features from Sprezzatura with Helltown beers, including the special release “412 Food Rescue Brew.” Songwriter and guitarist and Helltown creative director Byron Nash will perform and has previously participated in 412 Food Rescue’s virtual Yinz Citizen benefit concerts. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $45 and include a commemorative tasting glass (attendees must be 21+).

Additionally, local nonprofit Helping Hops, which mobilizes the craft beer community to support charitable causes, is providing promotional support to ensure beer-lovers and Food Rescue Heroes in the region enjoy 412 Food Rescue Brew, including funding the production of branded T-shirts and tasting glasses.

The organizations hope that the beer will bring light to the intersecting issues of food waste, food insecurity, and environmental sustainability, as well as how the local craft beer community can support the movement to end hunger by ending food waste.

“Every year, Helltown collaborates with an organization or charity to produce a beer special for that cause,” says Nash. “412 Food Rescue was my first choice for this year. It’s been an amazing partnership that highlights the great work of Pittsburgh’s Food Rescue Heroes!”

412 Food Rescue Co-founder and CEO Leah Lizarondo adds, “Our work is all about tapping into the power of community. We’re delighted to partner with Helltown Brewing on this project, spreading awareness with every pour.”
