Update: Other Half Brewing Confirms They Will Open A Brewing Location In Philadelphia In Late 2021
As of December 2020, the former Goose Island brewery in Philadelphia has remained dormant when the Chicago-based brewery closed operations. However, it looks as if a new tenant will be moving in. A recent license filing on the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board public database appears to be linked to Other Half Brewing.
A license, which seems to be filed by representatives of the New York brewery, can be seen below.
As you can see from the image above, the license is filed under the LLC “OHB PA”. As you can see in an LLC search below, the brewery uses the same acronym for their Washington DC location. In the listing below “OHB DC” is linked to Other Half Brewing. The address on the Pennsylvania license, which reads “1000-1002 CANAL ST PHILADELPHIA PA 19123”, is the former location of the Goose Island brewery in Philadelphia.
There is no word yet on whether or not the brewery plans to brew at this location (much like Goose Island did). Although the Restaurant license will allow for those possibilities and more.
The definition of a restaurant license according to PennsylvaniaLiquorLicenses.com:
“The primary purpose of the “R” licensed establishment is to habitually and principally provide food service to the public. The service of liquor, wine, or beer products is secondary. The interior dimensions must be no less than 400 square feet, equipped with at least 30 chairs, or the equivalent seating, at tables for public use.”
The 10,000+ square foot Philly brewpub was more than well equipped to offer a robust brewing and dining experience. With 28 taps, a full kitchen, and complete brewing operations, Goose Island was able to offer dining, drinking and much more.
There is no confirmation if the New York brewery will be officially moving forward with plans to move into Philadelphia. But given their more recent expansion, which has included direct beer shipping to Pennsylvania, the odds are high that they are Pa bound soon. We will continue to update as more information is available.
