It would appear that St. Boniface Brewing is up for sale. A listing on the site “BizBuySell”, which showcases businesses for sale, shows an asking price of 1.5 million dollars for a “Well Known Profitable Central PA Brewery”. (h/t to Jim Patterson Senft on Facebook for first alerting us of the listing).
It’s worth noting these listings typically do not address the company by name (as is the case here). However more times than not enough details are typically added to know which business is being listed for sale.
This listing confirms the brewery is located in Lancaster County and opened in 2010, the year in which St. Boniface opened. While there is a plethora of craft breweries in today’s market, back in 2010 the number was much smaller. In 2010 there were less than 80 breweries in the entire state. And of the 52 current breweries licensed in Lancaster County only one opened that year; which was St. Boniface. Furthermore the property is listed at 5,500 square foot which is the current footprint of the brewing location.
The listing goes on to say that “the sale encompasses all real estate, brewing equipment, fixtures, furnishings, branding assets, recipes, and intellectual property associated with the brewery.” And lists the reason for selling as “other business opportunity.”
The brewery most notably found themselves in controversy in mid 2022 over the decision to host an organization that was tied to white nationalist/ hate speech. We covered the controversy at the link below.
As of this writing no public statements have been made by St. Boniface about a pending sale, although most of these matters are typically worked out behind the scenes prior to new ownership coming on board.
We will update with more information as it becomes available.
