Lost Planet Brewing Coming Soon to Royersford

Lost Planet Brewing is coming soon to Royersford. The new brewery is opening up at 301 Walnut Street, with an estimated opening around March/April 2022.

We recently spoke with one of the owners to see what beer fans can expect from the newest brewery coming to the area. See below for our Q&A with her!

BIPA: What stage are you currently in?

Kathy: We are finishing things up. All of our licensing is done, and our brewing system is in. The first batch of beer was just brewed. Our intention is to have an ETA of 2 months to open.

BIPA: How did you become initially interested in craft beer, and what is your background? Who is all involved in the brewery?

Kathy: It’s me and my partner, Tom. We both have homebrewed, Tom for 20 years, and realized we wanted to take it to the next level. Tom and I both will be brewing. We both took a lot of training, and Tom has studied brewing abroad, and has several certifications.

BIPA: What styles of beers will you focus on?

Kathy: We will have 12 open taps of our beer, and honestly it’s across the board for styles. Tom loves to make German-style beers, Belgian’s, and Saisons, but we will be making lagers, pale ale’s, IPA’s (hazy and DIPA) to start as well. You can expect a good variety from us, there will be something for everyone.

BIPA: Can you describe the space you are opening?

Kathy: We are opening in Royersford’s first firehouse, Humane Fire Engine House No.1, which dates back to 1894. It was last operating as a firehouse in 2016, at which time the department moved across the street. We spent months in the historical society tracking down original firemen and the original fire chief.

We have made the building a historical landmark. Horses used to come through where the taproom is now, the harness would drop from the ceiling, and they would back up into it for a fire call. So we will have harnesses in place to show that and some other memorabilia as well, including a very large and antique game well an old device used to make fire calls. In addition to that, the building’s tower contains one of the last working diaphones in the area. We are excited to continue to preserve the space and tell the story.

The building itself is two floors, with seating around 150. We will have a 10 BBL brewhouse on the first floor with a brewing lab in the back. There will be two bars, the first-floor bar is about 24 feet long and will have 12 taps, seating around 22 people. The second-floor bar will be about 14 feet long, have about 4-6 taps, and seating for around 8 people.

We are also excited as our deck on the back of the building was just built. So we are looking forward to warmer weather to enjoy the beer garden there, with a few more surprises to come.

BIPA: Will you release crowlers or cans when you open?

Kathy: We will be doing both crowlers and cans. We may wait for just a little to do mobile canning until we get our feet underneath us.

BIPA: Will you have food at your brewery?

Kathy: There will be a full kitchen on the first floor, with a small warming kitchen on the second floor. We currently have all the hoods installed, and just waiting for equipment. We have hired a very experienced chef to join us. Stay tuned for more info about him.

We will have a traditional gastropub menu, with all food available to take out as well. We will focus on pairing our food with the beer.

BIPA: Anything else our readers should know about the Lost Planet Brewery?

Kathy: You had asked about our name, Lost Planet, and the meaning behind it. Tom is really big into astronomy, and the name just fit. The building will have a lot of cosmic flare.
