Necromancer Announces Expansion Plans Including Larger Brewhouse And New Taproom

Necromancer Brewing, fresh off their 1-year anniversary party, is back with more big news!

The North Hills-based brewery is announcing “Necromancer 2.0”. We spoke with co-owner Ben Butler to learn more about what this means, and what changes are to come.

“The beer continues to move faster than we can keep up with, and we’re hoping to finally do something about that.” says Ben, so their first move is to upgrade their system.

Necromancer Brewing opened mid-pandemic and started with a small taproom. The plan was to calibrate the products, and get a feel of what beers would be in demand, and see which new “resurrection styles” would work. In one year, they made 513 BBLs of beer, more than breweries larger than Necromancer, and 86 different beers – including 19 resurrections.

The brewery will be moving from its 3.5 BBL system to a brand new 15 BBL brewhouse, with 15 and 30 BBL tanks. He said they will be installing a decoction brewing system, lagering tanks, and an automated canning line as well. Building out the brewhouse means the entire 5,000 sq/ft area will be used for production. They will be adding trench drains, glycol, and a large silo will be installed outside to accommodate their grain needs. All of this will allow Necromancer to be able to scale seamlessly to its 10-year goal. They’re in the early stages, but their hope is to have the new 15 BBL brewing system operational by the end of 2023.

With the increase in beer, the brewery will eventually be introducing more space to enjoy it in on-site. If you came to “Philly Invades Pittsburgh” this past April, you know the space they’re talking about. The 10,000 sq/ft back room will be transformed into their new taproom, at just about the same time that the new brewhouse is being installed.

The new taproom will include a restaurant (with rotating vendors), a new to-go sales area, room for upwards of 325 guests, as well as games and entertainment to enjoy. There are current plans for games such as pinball, pool tables, and some arcade games. A large bar is planned, of course with Necromancer’s seamless branding, and will seat around 30 guests. There will be 20 taps for mostly Necromancer beers available as well.

While this all seems like a lot for a brewery that just celebrated its one-year anniversary earlier this month, it’s clear beer fans are demanding more beers from their three main categories: Trends, Familiars, and Resurrections. Have you been to Necromancer yet? If not, you will need to get there soon to see what everyone is talking about!

Keep up with the many changes coming to Necromancer by following them on Facebook and Instagram. Breweries In PA will of course follow up with them!
