Our Town Brewery To Expand With Taproom In Philadelphia

Our Town Brewery opened on September 10th, 2020 in Lancaster, PA, with a 10bbl brewhouse, inside a 100-year-old former car sales and service building.

The brewery just announced they’re expanding with a taproom in Philadelphia at 1519 Ridge Avenue. The estimated time to open this space is late summer.

We spoke with Rob Tarves, co-owner and brewer of Our Town Brewery, to learn more about the new location and what beer fans can expect.

BIPA: Can you describe the space you are opening?

Rob: We are opening on the first floor of a brand new building. We will occupy the first floor which is 1,700 sq/ft total, and the main taproom will be 1,100 sq/ft. There are 18 apartment units above us, and we will be the only commercial space in the entire building.

There will be seating for 40-45 people in the taproom, with a 16 ft bar, seating about 8. There will be 10-12 taps to start (including 2 Lukr side pull taps), and we will also have cider and draft cocktails.

We will have a 600 sq/ft beer garden in the back, and we have some space out front (the entire windows in the front can be slid open) on the sidewalk for about 20 people as well. There is a dog park that is right next to the beer garden, and we are looking into how to accommodate dog owners.

BIPA: Will you brew at this location as well?

Rob: This will be a taproom only, and all brewing will still take place at our location in Lancaster.

BIPA: Will you have a kitchen at this location?

Rob: We will not have a kitchen here. We are looking to support existing food businesses in the immediate area, and also looking into food trucks as well.

BIPA: Will you release crowlers and cans here?

Rob: We’ll definitely have cans available here. Almost all the beers we offer in Lancaster will be available at our Philadelphia taproom.

BIPA: Anything else our readers should know about the new taproom:

Rob: Currently our PLCB application is being reviewed. We have a lot of the build-out to be completed, but we are looking toward an ETA of late summer.

We are also hiring an assistant brewer and taproom manager. Please reach out to Our Town Brewery at [email protected] to apply!
