Stolen Sun Brews Beer With Duck Donuts For Special Release

Stolen Sun Craft Brewery has teamed up with Duck Donuts, a popular donut company (headquartered out of Mechanicsburg, PA), with various locations in PA, as well as all over the US.

The beer they made is a 7.8% french toast donut stout, using lots of actual Duck Donuts french toast donuts in the mash, and some fondant in the boil for some sweet flavors.

Starting 2/1 at 10am there will be cans available at the brewery, along with limited draft, as well as a french toast donut and beer pairing. There will be 3 simultaneous popup can releases on 2/2 from 10am-2pm at Duck Donuts West Chester, KOP and Collegeville.

Stolen Sun’s owners Jon and Deirdre Zangwill got to know Matt and Terry Matalavage, the owners of DD West Chester, as they planned a beer and donut pairing at the brewery in November 2019. The brewery knew they wanted to work with them more since they like to work with other local family businesses. Knowing it would be fun to do a donut beer collaboration, they all started the ideation process and settled on a French toast donut pastry stout. Something sweet but still balanced and drinkable.

“If you told me when I started brewing in the early ’90s that one day I’d be throwing donuts in the mas tun I would’ve said you were crazy. It’s exciting and challenging to continue to push the envelope in old school to new school beers.” – Jonathan Zangwill, Owner/Brewer of Stolen Sun Brewing Company.

On brew day, they all ate donuts, drank beer, and talked about possible names and label ideas. Quack of Dawn was then decided on as the name.
