Whitehorse Brewing To Host Ovarian Cancer Benefit Sept. 7th

Unfortunately we all know someone who has been impacted by cancer. For Whitehorse Brewing head brewer, Mike Fahy, he lost his late wife, Darcel, in October of 2017 to ovarian cancer at the age of 33 after a 7 ½ year battle. It is in that spirit that Whitehorse will be hosting an ovarian cancer benefit on Saturday, September 7th at their brewery in Berlin, PA to support fighting this disease.

For this event Mike will be brewing “With You Always” a coffee milk stout; which was one of Darcel’s favorite styles. This beer will be brewed in remembrance of everyone that has been lost as well honoring all that have survived this awful disease.

The beer will be released at this special event held on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 in honor of Darcel’s birthday (September 8th) and also coinciding with September being National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Food for the event will be provided by Pappy D’s BBQ and live music by Tim Roberts & Stacey Myers. The event will run from 1:00 – 9:00 on Saturday.

The breweries goal is to not only raise money for research but to increase awareness and honor survivors and families of those that have been lost to this disease. A butterfly release (weather permitting for butterfly safety) will also be held in honor and remembrance of all who have been affected by cancer.

Funds raised from beer sales, as well as raffled items, will go towards support of further research aimed at studying and regulating cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) which may be responsible for ovarian cancer metastasis, chemotherapy resistance and ultimately disease recurrence. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this beer and raffle items will be donated to Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation.

If you cannot make it to the Berlin location, you can still support this cause. “With You Always” will also be on tap at Whitehorse’s Washington, PA location and other local breweries who have generously agreed to help support the cause. Participating breweries include Noble Stein Brewing (Indiana, PA), Quinn Brewing (Irwin, PA), Olde Bedford Brewing (Bedford, PA), Coal Country (Ebensburg, PA), All Saints Brewing (Greensburg, PA) and Fury Brewing Company (Irwin, PA). All participating breweries will provide 100% of proceeds to this cause!

Leading up to this event Whitehorse also asks that any survivors or family members of those lost to cancer please submit their stories to be honored as well. They will be posting these stories on the event Facebook page as well as throughout the brewery on the day of the event!
