Hazel Grove Brewing is targeting to join the Pittsburgh craft beer scene in 2023. The brewery plans to open its doors at 4605 Irvine Street in Hazelwood, which was formerly the headquarters and warehouse for a small construction company. Owners Steve & Barb Hartman and Larry Adams intend to transform their 6,400 sq/ft building into a vibrant, colorful, and creative space. Guests can expect beer hall-style seating, outdoor areas, and a lounge.
The brewer/owner team met in Pittsburgh years ago and has a strong background in homebrewing. They have won awards for over a dozen different beers at competitions across the country. Their brewing experience and exposure to the industry were just some of the motivations to open their own space. The group was also inspired by the idea that beer brings people together and helps build up communities.
Steve says, “We’re excited to make Hazel Grove an inclusive environment where everyone can feel welcome, and to make a positive contribution to our Hazelwood community.” One way they will achieve this is by partnering with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh on a food truck at the brewery. Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is an organization that provides free culinary training and helps underemployed people find jobs in the foodservice industry.

As far as what’s on tap, Hazel Grove plans to offer a broad portfolio of beer styles. They will also offer some non-alcoholic craft beverage options. The idea is that everyone will be able to find something they love at the new spot.
Steve also adds, “Pittsburgh has a phenomenal craft beer scene with a lot of great people – we’ve been blown away by the welcome we’ve received from everyone and are stoked to be a part of the community. A huge shout out to everyone who’s helping to make Pittsburgh one of the best beer cities in the world!”
