Broken Goblet Teams With New Jersey Metal Legends Deadguy On Märzen Collab Releasing Sept. 24th

Broken Goblet Brewing has announced a collaboration with NJ metal legends Deadguy on a beer to commemorate their reunion show as well as the release of the upcoming documentary chronicling “the definitive untold story of a genre-defining album from New Jersey’s most dangerous band”.

On Friday, September 24th, a special screening of “Deadguy: Killing Music” will occur at Underground Arts, and tickets can be secured here.. A day later, the band will reunite for the sold out Decibel Metal and Beer Festival, September 25-26, In Philadelphia, to play their landmark album “Fixation on a Co-Worker” in its entirety. This will be their first show in 25 years.

Deadguy, originally hailing from New Brunswick, NJ, was a short-lived but incredibly influential band whose only studio album “Fixation on a Co-worker” was seen by many as a genre-defining album in the burgeoning metalcore subset of heavy metal. For Mike LaCouture and the Broken Goblet crew, this collaboration made perfect sense since LaCouture and co-workers Reese Dunlap (barshift lead) and Mark Salmon (graphic designer) were themselves in a long-running and somewhat influential metalcore band from New Jersey as well.

Says LaCouture, “as the sponsors of the festival, we always have the option of discussing collabs with some of the interested bands, but this year I was ready to just focus on us, the festival beer – a big Barleywine called ‘Ashes in the Air’ – and staying afloat as we navigate the COVID aftermath. However, when we heard that Deadguy had decided they might want chat about a beer, I was all about it.” A few calls later, and LaCouture and Deadguy guitarist Keith Huckins had decided that the best beer for this would be one that mirrored Deadguy’s attitude – a no BS, no fluff, traditional-but-in-your-face Oktoberfest.

The beer, named Makeshift Atomsmasher after one of the songs on the album, is a traditional Marzen-style lager that more mirrors the festival-proper lagers and not the slightly heavier American take on the style. They tapped Mark Salmon to design a label that recollects retro horror movie posters, a theme near and dear to the band.

The beer will premier at the documentary screening on the 24th, and then will be available at the 2-day festival as well as the BarCADE aftershow events, finally making its general public debut at Broken Goblet on draft and in 16oz cans on September 29th.
