East End Brewing Turns “East End Chewing” Into A Reality; Pairing A Gourmet Menu With Award Winning Beer

EAST END CHEWING is fully operational!

What started out as a bit of an inside joke and a way to meet PA’s mandatory food requirements during Covid restrictions, has gradually evolved into a more significant part of the East End Brewing dining experience.

When the brewery said goodbye to Hilary, Justin, and the rest of the awesome crew from Larder, they were left with an empty kitchen and a pretty big puzzle to solve: “What’s next for food at East End Brewing?” What can work in the near term and for the long haul, for dine-in, and for take-out? What will go so perfectly with the beer that they work so hard to make as delicious as it can be?

The obvious answer to this question and so many others… PIZZA!

Thankfully, they were lucky enough to land Pittsburgh restaurant veteran, long-time customer, and GOOD FRIEND of the brewery, Sheryl Johnston to run kitchen operations. “We’re keeping the menu pretty simple, focusing on a rustic, thick-crust pizza, that we offer in just a few configurations at a time… a classic cheese pizza, a pepperoni pizza, and our ever-changing Pizza of the Week… which keeps things fresh and interesting each week. And of course, we offer just about everything on our menu in vegetarian and vegan forms too” Scott Smith, Owner of East End Brewing, said about the new menu.

The brewery has found that their “Pizza of the Week” has provided endless opportunities to take advantage of seasonal ingredients while taking inspiration from every corner of the culinary world.

Whether it’s a Bahn Mi sandwich pizza, an Eggplant Parmesan pizza, a Reuben pizza, or even Pierogi Pizza that’s built to pair with their Grätzer Beer (a traditional Polish smoked wheat beer), the possibilities seem to be limitless.

I’m not saying we’re committing to make a completely unique pizza for each of Pittsburgh’s 90 neighborhoods just yet, but I suppose if we can do it with beer, pizza would not be impossible. So maybe check back when we’re 90 weeks into this? Sheryl has already created more than 30, one per week. So it could happen!” Smith added.

East End Chewing is now fully operational and food (and beer) can be ordered here. While the brewery does offer local delivery for beer, food must be picked up onsite. Continue to keep up with the Pittsburgh area brewery by following them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
