When it comes to craft beer, every state has it’s bragging rights. While opinions vary on what makes each state #1, we are a big believer in facts.

So is Pennsylvania the number one beer state in the country? Let’s look at the facts.

Pennsylvania Produces The Most Beer In The Country

According to a study by the Brewers Association, Pennsylvania ranks number 1 in the U.S for barrels of beer produced at 3.9 million. The next highest state is California at 3.2 million. To put that into perspective, that means CA is producing 1 barrel of beer for every 12 people in the state, whereas PA is producing 1 barrel for every 3 people in the state!

Pennsylvania Drinks The Most Beer

We don’t just produce the most beer…. we drink the most too! According to Untappd Pennsylvania ranks number 1 with the most check-ins in the United States. Once again California comes in second place with 4 hundred thousand less check ins.

With such a larger population, you would think California has the edge, but that is not the case. California averages 1 check-in for every 7.3 people, meanwhile in Pennsylvania averages 1 check-in for every 2.2 people in the state!

Pennsylvania Is Home To The Largest Craft Brewery In The Country

In a report done by the Brewers Association titled “2017 Top 50 Brewing Companies By Sales Volume” a Pennsylvania brewery came in at number 1!

Call Yuengling what you want, but by definition they are craft beer. Sure they don’t dominate the haze scene that most drinkers are defining as craft these days. But none the less, Yuengling is craft. #FactsMatter
