Philly Beer Week Announces ‘Opening Tap’ Event To Be Replaced By A Simultaneous Cheers Day

If you’ve ever enjoyed the kick-off event for Philly Beer Week known as ‘Opening Tap’ you are in for a bit of a change in 2022. The organization behind the week-long beer celebration (Philly Loves Beer) recently announced that Opening Tap will not be held this year. Rather it is being replaced by a “simultaneous cheers” on Friday, June 3rd at 7:00 PM.

With not many more details shared, we can only assume this means consumers are urged to have a beer at their local Philly area bar or brewery. A very similar suggestion was made during the final Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week before the Pittsburgh Brewers Guild took over planning.

As of this writing, there is no word on what this means for the rest of the beer week. Which, according to this post online, suggests will return from June 3rd to June 12th of this year. However, when you attempt to access the Philly Loves Beer website, which historically has a listing of all events planned, you are directed to an error page.

Does this signal an end to one of the more historic craft beer weeks in Pennsylvania? Only time will tell. We reached out to Philly Loves Beer for comment, with no immediate response. We will continue to update as more information is available.
