Platform Beer Co. Opening Brewery In Pittsburgh

You know Pennsylvania beer is big when other breweries come across the state line to open up shop. Southern Tier and Iron Hill are just a few who have made the journey to the keystone state. You can now add Ohio based Platform Beer Company to that list!

As recently announced Platform intends to open a a two-story, 8,000-square-feet space in the Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The brewery will include a 10-barrel brewhouse, canning line, barrel aging program, 24 draft beer taps and kitchen! The brewery will even have an event space with seating capacity of over 100 guests. The Pittsburgh location will be the breweries first location outside of Ohio.

Platform Beer began as a collaboration by Paul Brenner, a homebrew supply store owner, and Justin Carson, owner of a draft line servicing company. The original brewpub opened to the public in 2014 with the primary goal of producing beer for the Northeast Ohio market. They would then to grow to build four more locations.

Benner is quoted as saying; “We are opening with a big enough brewhouse to allow for a nice variety of draft beer made on-site in Pittsburgh. Our packaging capability will also allow for limited can release offerings on a regular basis.”

Carson explained the driving force behind why they chose Pittsburgh as the breweries destination “There are a number of reasons why the Pittsburgh market makes sense for our next tasting room. Existing distribution, consumer drinking trends, geography, location of the space and the desire to engage with the local community are just a few reasons why we are so excited to call Pittsburgh our next home.”

The project is planned for 4805 Penn Ave adding to the ever growing craft beer scene Pittsburgh has to offer.

We will continue to update as more news is announced.
