Alien Baphomet from Tired Hands Brewing Company is a 7.4% “Strange IPA” as they call it. This beer was brewed in collaboration with Ron Jeffries from Jolly Pumpkin. We were very interested to try this, not only because all the ingredients, but also that this was a so called different take on Alien Church (one of Tired Hands staple beers).
This beer was brewed with oats, couscous, brown teff, and spiced with saffron. Hopped like crazy with Mosaic and Centennial, you notice a hazy yellow/gold pour with a small head.
Aromas include strong hops up front, tropical fruits, orange, and pine. And upon tasting this, flavors of tropical fruit, a little spice, pine, and really holds up to being similar to Alien Church. We couldn’t really notice the couscous or much of the saffron spice.
Similar to a lot of Tired Hands beers, Alien Baphomet doesn’t have much carbonation. Very light on the tongue, this beer is full bodied and lives up to its “Strange IPA” name.
