Forest and Main Brewing of Ambler, PA are known for their experimental and unique beers, especially their saison.  Banjo is the epitome of one of those interesting saison brewed on Main Street.

Banjo is a saison that is fermented with Brett, conditioned on fresh cucumber, and is then further conditioned in the can.

The beer pours a hazy light golden color with a nice amount of white head and decent lacing on a tulip glass.  Aroma is fresh cucumber and slight funk from the brett that was added to this ale.  On the palate you are greeted with tartness and funk up front, with cucumber in the middle and citrus on the finish that ends bone dry.

Banjo is definitely one to try and a good example of how a cucumber beer is done right.  The saison yeast esters, brett and hops play well with the fresh cucumber and make this interesting brew refreshing on a hot summer day, and at 5%, it won’t beat you up while sessioning.
