Bobbly Head is an apple ale with 6.0% ABV from Lancaster, PA’s Lancaster Brewing Co. Fans of apple juice, apple cider and hard cider now have another excellent way to enjoy an apples drink.
Bobbly Head pours to a bright golden color with a dense, cloud-white head that slowly dissolves. The aroma is straight up fresh apples, there’s a bit of cider-like aroma, but without the overt sweetness.
Right from the first sip you can taste the difference between this apple ale and hard ciders with its much more mellow sweetness. There’s a definitive apple flavor with some noble hops for balance and a finish that is refreshingly crisp from brew’s carbonation.
In a lot of ways Bobbly Head is the happy medium for beer and cider. If you’re already a fan of cider then you get another adult drink to enjoy that apple flavor, but if you’ve been skeptical or flat-out dislike hard cider then this is a beer that dials down the sweetness and gives a bit more of a classic ale flavor.
