Crafting Excellence: Broad Street Brewing Opening its Doors for Craft Beer Enthusiasts

The record number of craft breweries in Pennsylvania grows by one more when the team at Broad Street Brewing opens on Friday, June 30th. The brewery will be located at 2621 Durham Road in Bristol, PA.

To learn more about the future brewery we spoke with co-founder Ed Webber who, along with Brandon Wellington and Tim Lohse, are the founders behind the operations. As the story goes Brandon and Ed first met during their time at Lehigh University while Tim and Brandon had worked together in the commercial HVAC trades. After almost a decade of crafting a passion for homebrewing the trio decided to make the dream of Broad Street Brewing a reality.

While the name Broad Street does originate from its Philadelphia roots, the plan is to look further beyond that. The brand is designed to be more dynamic as the business grows. As Webber confirmed, with thousands of Broad Streets all across the United States they plan to have an identifiable brand wherever it is that they decide to grow. And, as you will learn below, growth is a key goal of theirs.

While the brewery will have a taproom with up to 12 draft lines of rotating beer, 90% of beer production will go out the door to bars and restaurants as a part of their robust distribution plans. Due to Brandon’s work in the commercial HVAC space, the brewery has established relationships with many different drinking establishments in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. As a result, the brewery has already been busy filling kegs to get out the door. Eventual distribution plans also include New Jersey as well as New York and beyond.

To keep up with this demand the brewing company operates on a 15 barrel brewing system, which is much larger than many breweries that first open their doors. With a capacity for 150 barrels of fermentation, Broad Street believes they have what it takes to satisfy both its taproom and growing list of retailers.

To oversee brewing operations the team hired a passionate brewer with a plethora of experience. Andrew Balmer formerly spent time at Flying Fish and Kane Brewing honing his craft. He now brings this experience to Broad Street Brewing where he will bring the recipes to life.

They will not stop at just developing their own recipes for guests to enjoy. Webber shared that the team behind Broad Street is very passionate about giving back to the homebrew community as well. The team enjoys working with local homebrewers to help scale their recipes at the professional level and will look for opportunities to work with the local homebrewing community.

Broad Street Brewing will be more than just a place to savor extraordinary beers. As Webber shares, the plan is to offer an immersive space that invites you to discover the stories behind each brew, fostering a sense of community and connection. They intend to offer a welcoming taproom, adorned with warm hues, inviting seating, and an ambiance that whispers tales of camaraderie. Guests will be just steps away from where beer is made with tours of the brewing operations offered regularly.

No in-house food will be offered, but the brewery will be working with the many different local food trucks to offer a full dining experience. In addition to this, the local restaurant Sal’s Italian Deli will have space leased near the brewery with the ability to serve food to guests of the taproom.

As Webber shared, the team behind Broad Street is passionate about providing “very drinkable beers where everything is designed to be easily enjoyed. We want to deliver on a higher magnitude while keeping a focus on quality ingredients.

The taproom is expected to be open from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday and 4:00 to 10:00 PM Friday through Sunday. In addition to craft beer, a limited amount of ready to drink cocktails and locally made wine will be available as well.

The grand opening of the space is scheduled for Friday, June 30th. For now be sure to check out their website, and follow the brewery on Facebook and Instagram to see the progress of their brewery growth and keep up with all of their latest news.
