East End Brewing And Primanti Bros Bring Back Almost Famous Pickle Beer; Releasing Aug. 19th

Last year we brought you the news that East End Brewing Company had teamed up with popular Pittsburgh sandwich restaurant Primanti Bros to release a pickle-flavored craft beer, “Almost Famous Pickle Beer”.

Since this beer was a wildly popular fan favorite, they’re bringing it back for a limited time, beginning Wednesday, August 19 at Pittsburgh-area Primanti Bros. locations as well as at East End Brewing Company. It will again be sold in individual commemoratively designed 16oz cans, and also sold as 4-packs to-go.

“Almost Famous Pickle Beer sold out in less than 48 hours after we cracked the first can in July 2019,” said Jim Prezioso, Senior Marketing Manager, Primanti Bros. “Almost Famous Pickle Beer is the right beer at the right time, especially with everyone in sort-of-a pickle these days with COVID-19. “

Like last year, Primanti Bros. worked with East End Brewing’s owner and founder Scott Smith and his team to brew the pickle beer, because “Why mess up a good thing?” said Prezioso.

In addition to barley and hops, the recipe includes about 600 pounds of fresh local cucumbers, coriander, sea salt, fresh dill, and new addition this year: black peppercorn.  Technically speaking, this beer is a Cucumber Gose.

“The fresh cukes really come through this year, and the new peppercorn addition definitely accentuates the savory notes on the beer’s finish. I just can’t wait to drink one with a Primanti’s sandwich!” said Smith.

The Almost Famous Pickle Beer is available while supplies last, at select Pittsburgh-area Primanti Bros. locations (full list here), and at the East End Brewing Company’s on-line store where beer fans can order for curbside pickup and Saturday home delivery.

About Primanti Brothers
In 1933, Joe Primanti opened a lunch cart in Pittsburgh’s Strip District selling sandwiches to the hungry truckers who were coming and going at all times of the night. Encouraged by sales and positive feedback, Joe expanded to a small storefront where he was joined by his brothers Dick and Stanley and their nephew John DePriter. And that’s how the very first Primanti Bros. location was born – Primanti Bros. currently has 42 locations, all dedicated to that early notion that folks deserve great food, with no pretense, for a good price.

About East End Brewing
Scott Smith founded East End Brewing Company in 2004 after quitting his engineering job at a big corporation, so he could bring fresh, local beer to Pittsburgh. Known for its flagship Big Hop American Ale, the brewery will release more than 50 different beers this year in kegs, cans, and bottles at its 17,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood. East End Brewing has been called “The most celebrated local craft brewery,” by Pittsburgh Magazine, and has been named “Best Local Beer,” seven years in a row by Pittsburgh City Paper.
