Hop Devil from Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, PA) is a 6.7% ABV/50 IBU American India Pale ale. Made with many distinct American hops, the mythical HopDevil is said to reside in the lore of the farmers.
Pouring to a nice dark amber/red color, you will get slight lacing with a small off-white head forming. True to the name, aromas of the American hops (Cascade, Centennial, Chinook) are immediately present. Pine, citrus, grapefruit, and orange come to mind as well, with some sweet malt smells as well.
Upon sipping HopDevil, you’ll get complex hop flavors that made you choose this IPA in the first place. Citrus, pine, and some malty backbone notes flood your mouth as you continue to sip this east coast style IPA.
This is a great IPA true to the east coast style. It pairs well with BBQ ribs and grilled meats, as well as cheddar cheese, and given the hops used, should be a regular beer in your fridge. Smooth and full bodied, this is a balanced IPA that combines some of your favorite American hops and a sweet malt (Pilsner, Vienna, Medium Caramel Malt) for an enjoyable drinking experience.
