Pennsylvania Loophole: A Collaboration With PA’s Smallest Breweries

Announcing the latest PA brewery collab, Pennsylvania Loophole. Breweries In PA, along with East End Brewing, and a big list of PA breweries have collaborated on a beer (see the full list of breweries below).

This beer was hatched on the idea that some of the smaller beer makers in PA needed some help. Operating during COVID is obviously challenging for all breweries, but it seems that the smaller breweries in the state who don’t have the means of packaging their beer beyond growlers have been taking a real beating lately.

Pennsylvania breweries, as licensed beer makers, can all sell beer from other PA breweries, but only for on-premise consumption, nothing packaged to go. However, if it’s a collaboration beer with ALL of the collaborating breweries listed on the label, and the appropriate “contract brewing” paperwork in place, they can! (BIG shoutout to Matt Andersen of Norris McLaughlin Law, PA’s top liquor law practice, for helping!)

The collaboration beer was brewed at East End Brewing and will be packaged in 16oz cans under the name Pennsylvania Loophole, and then be able to be sold by each participating brewery.

Given COVID restrictions, the collaboration itself was more in spirit than in person, happening virtually. Any PA brewery that was interested in collaborating on this brew was welcome to sign on, as long as they could commit to purchasing some cases at wholesale price, to then sell at their brewery at retail.

If you’re a beer drinker who wants to support this project, plan on picking up some of this beer from your local participating small brewery when it’s ready for release!

If you‘re from a brewery who is interested in collaborating, this round is already fully committed, since the beer is already in the tank. But the possibility of doing additional runs with a new recipe is real, so send an email to [email protected].

Pennsylvania Loophole is a 7.2% ABV hazy IPA brewed with Galaxy and Idaho 7 hops, and will be available in a few weeks in 16 cans, at each of the breweries listed below.
