Recipe: Sterling Pig Baltimore Pike BBQ Sauce

Want to impress your guests and make any BBQ memorable?  Step up your sauce game and make some delicious Sterling Pig Baltimore Pike Porter BBQ sauce to slather on chicken, pork or beef.  We all know that a nice craft beer pairs well with barbecue, so why not put some IN your bbq sauce?

This all purpose bbq sauce is sweet, slightly acidic, roasty, sticky and has a nice subtle burn on the back end that will have you wanting seconds of whatever you may put it on.  Use this recipe as a guide, add more spices to your taste; the beauty of barbecue is that it is a reflection of you!

Ingredients:

• 2tbl olive oil
• ½ large onion
• 1tbl minced garlic
• 1tsp chili powder
• 1tsp paprika
• ¼ cup Apple cider vinegar
• ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
• 2 cups ketchup
• 2tsp garlic powder
• 1tsp onion powder
• 1tsp black pepper
• 1 ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp ground mustard
• ½ tsp cayenne pepper
• ½ cup honey
• ½ cup packed brown sugar
• 1tsp hot sauce
• 12 ounces Sterling Pig Baltimore Pike Porter

Directions:

• Add 2tbl olive oil to a heavy stockpot and heat to shimmer
• Add half an onion and one tbl minced fresh garlic, sweat until translucent
• Add 1tsp chili powder and one tbl paprika and toast until aromatic
• Add ¼ cup Apple cider vinegar and ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce to deglaze
• Simmer for a minute, stirring to combine
• Add 2 cups ketchup
• Add 2 tsp garlic powder, 1tsp onion powder, 1tsp black pepper, 1 ½ tsp salt ½ tsp ground mustard, ½ tsp cayenne pepper ½ cup honey ¼ cup packed brown sugar
• Add 1tsp of your favorite hot sauce, or more to increase heat
• Add 12 ounces of Sterling Pig Baltimore Pike Porter
• Bring up to a boil, reduce to a simmer
• Simmer 30 minutes or until reduced by a quarter
• Blend until smooth

If you don’t have the time or just aren’t kitchen savvy, just buy a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce and add 3 parts sauce to one part Porter and simmer til reduced by 25% and slather it on everything.
