Sunny Side Up is an imperial coffee stout from Pizza Boy Brewing Co. with an ABV of 9.5%. Made with locally sourced coffee beans from Little Amps Coffee Roasters in Harrisburg you already know you’re going to be in for a rich coffee flavored experience.
Sunny Side Up pours to a very dense dark brown that lets very little light pass through and produces of one inch light brown heads that slowly dissolves. It immediately gives off a deep coffee aroma, very similar to a fresh poured cup in the morning, with hints of cocoa.
Initial sips deliver on the coffee stout promise with a bold coffee flavor mixed with the sweetness of toasted malt. Thick and cloying this brew blankets the tongue entirely and doesn’t let go, creating a very involved tasting experience that won’t end until several minutes after the last drop. Deeply enjoyable there are also feint notes of chocolate sweetness mixed with the embracing warmth from such a high ABV offering.
This beer is like a warm blanket on a chilly fall morning, it warms you up, makes you comfortable and you don’t want the experience to end.
