the 200 from Hidden River Brewing Co.

The 200 is an American pale ale with 6.6% ABV from Hidden River Brewing Co. in Douglassville, PA. Hidden River is a brewery known for many different things such as: the 300+ year old house they’re located in, the overall affability of their ownership and staff as well as their ability to make elite tier beers in a number of different styles.

This particular ale pours not so much like a beer as it does an orange or grapefruit juice, it’s incredibly hazy, yellowish color produces a thick, creamy off white head. The aroma is pure juice, fresh citrus with specific notes of grapefruit and melon waft delightfully when poured or even on first cracking of crowler.

All of the lovely visuals and scent lead perfectly into this crushable pale ale. The 200 has an almost creamy texture, much more familiar to stouts, but still has the juicy, fruit notes familiar with the Citra, Motueka and Topaz hops used. The finish is smooth with just a touch of hoppy bite to make drinkers aware that yes, this is still a pale ale.

Beers such as this are why Hidden River is quickly making a name for itself as being among the top ranks of Pennsylvania breweries. Unfortunately, as a results of their ever rotating taplist it is unlikely you’ll be able to go and get the 200 right now, but this should not deter beer lovers for it is just another example of the caliber of beer Hidden River can produce.
