The first Black is Beautiful Global Collaboration Beer is now available in Philly

Attic Brewing Co. in Germantown just released Black is Beautiful- 6.5% Oatmeal Stout,  a collaboration beer with over 700 breweries worldwide to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily.

This collaboration was spearheaded by Weathered Souls Brewing Co. in San Antonio, TX, one of only 100 Black-owned breweries in the country. Their mission is to bridge the gap that’s been around for ages and provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color.

Over 40 breweries in PA have joined the cause and we’ll start to see releases of this beer throughout Philadelphia over the coming weeks.  Breweries were asked to donate a portion of the proceeds to local organizations that support equality and inclusion.  Attic Brewing Co. is donating a portion of their proceeds to The Johnson Historic Site in Germantown. A Center for Social Advocacy and historic house museum that represents what everyday people have done and can do to make a difference in their community and beyond.

For the past three years, Attic Brewing Co. has partnered with the Johnson house to co-host a beer garden during their Juneteenth Celebration where 100% of the funds raised were donated to the historic site.

Attic Brewing Co., open less than six months, is located in Germantown. A primarily black, low income neighborhood in Philadelphia. The owners, Laura and Todd Lacy, have worked for years to invite people of color to enjoy their beers and learn about craft brewing. In the short time their taproom was open, before shutting down because of COVID-19, they had one of the most diverse craft brewery taprooms in the country. Their team, mostly residents of Germantown, also come from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Attic Brewing Co. released their own Breath of Change, Hazy IPA earlier in June. 100% of the profits from this beer are being donated to three local black owned non-profits in Germantown; Par-Recycle Works, Northwest Victim Services and Urban Youth Kings and Queens.  Attic Brewing Co. has partnered with these organizations over the past few years and has seen first-hand the amazing work they do for people of color in Germantown.
