Broken Goblet Brewing & the Mutual Respect Brewery Collective have added a few more pieces to the mix: a distillery, and a new taproom.
“The Mixing Room” is now open full-time and is located directly next door to the brewery. This new 6,000 sq/ft space houses the soon-to-open distillery, a kitchen currently under construction, and a new taproom.
We spoke with Kate Sweeney, co-owner of Broken Goblet, to learn more about the space.
The space was originally owned by a now ex-landlord and was planned to be Key Spirits and a pizza restaurant until Covid when work on both was abandoned. It was dormant until Broken Goblet took it over, and has been working on it since. The Mutual Respect Brewery Collective will occupy the space made up of Broken Goblet Brewing, Trauger Brewing, Lucky Cat Brewing Company, CaféDilla, and the soon-to-be-revealed new distilling brand.
The new taproom has seating for about 75 and a bar with about 10 seats. It’s a mixture of low table seating, high-top seating, and lounge-couch space. Intimate, inviting, and relaxing. Sweeney insists that the space “was an answer to the questions ‘where do we go to get away from the noise’ and ‘what about if we just want to visit for beer?’”
There are 16 taps for all Mutual Collective brands, which are available in cans and to-go four packs. All mixed drinks are currently made with PA-based spirits until their state distilling license is approved. A new mixologist has been hired, Anders, and he has been in the industry for 10+ years. He brings a wealth of knowledge from working at speakeasies and whiskey lounges like Philly’s Hop Sing Laundromat and The Local in neighboring New Jersey.
Once the distillery is up and running, fans of Mutual Respect will be able to purchase their spirits as well as some other PA-based liquors. The plan is to start with clear spirits – vodka, Gin, and White Rum – and then eventually get into aging spirits, some fun liqueur options, and potentially canned cocktails down the road.
For beer fans who are used to going to the large music venue part of the location, this is the new taproom from now on. It is a space to sit down, enjoy, and relax. What was the original taproom is now called the music room, and will be open for private events and live music ticketed shows.
For food, CafeDilla is prepping to open this spring, but is serving a limited menu as we speak, and Broken Goblet will have. more details on that soon.
