Grapefruit Daydreamin’ Session IPA is a fruit enhanced take on Manayunk Brewing Company’s standard Daydreamin’ IPA and is a worthy addition to what is quickly becoming the summer of the fruit beer.
Pouring to a deep orange color with brown accents this brew is quite hazy and leaves a sparkling white head that is fairly fast dissolving. From its first pour the grapefruit is evident as its distinct aroma wafts into the air, providing a pleasantly sweet scent that should remind drinkers of fresh fruit as opposed to artificial sweetness.
Things only improve from there as the beer brings the bitterness you’d expect from a pale ale without being overly dank. The bitter flavor is very in line with what you’d get from a grapefruit or grapefruit juice, not hoppier beer. This is to be expected as it only tips the IBU scale at a modest 44. At its equally pedestrian ABV of 4.1% this beer accomplishes what is sets out to do;namely it’s meant to be enjoyed in multiples as a refreshing drink that also can provide a little buzz. Hop fiends should looks elsewhere for their fix, but those in search of what you may call a “deck beer” should look no further than this pink colored gem.
