Impending Descent is a barrel-aged stout with 12% ABV from Tröegs Independent Brewing located in Hershey, PA. This stout is a part of Tröegs “Splinter Series,” a select and limited run of brews that are both hard to find and excellent for aging, they’re called trophy beers, so yeah, they’re a pretty big deal.

This descent is a dark one as it pours to a pitch black color with a light brown head that dissolves leaving an intoxicating aroma of vanilla and dark chocolate. These scents are no surprise given it was created using vanilla bean, cocoa and raw cane sugar.

These smells quickly translate into tastes as first sips are packed full of warm vanilla and rich cocoa. The bourbon barrels Descent were aged in make their mark here with an smoky oak presence that swirls into luscious bourbon notes, warm and boozy.

Lightly carbonated and fairly dense this is an excellent beer to pour into your favorite snifter, while sitting in your favorite recliner and sip away as you descend into bliss.
