Yodeler from Draai Laag Brewing Co.

Yodeler is a Belgian inspired barleywine ale with 13.2% ABV from Pittsburgh, PA’s Draai Laag Brewing Co.

Draai Laag’s barleywine is a lovely shade of mahogany, shining in the sunlight with a dense foamy head that slowly dissolves into its base. There’s an aroma of toffee, caramel and fruity resin that it gives off an air as a delicious winter treat just waiting to be devoured.

First sips do not disappoint with notes of sugar plum, caramel and raisin to go along with some roasted malty sweetness. The finish has a hint of the funky signature Draai Laag brings to every offering; this serves as a wonderful accent to the bits of spice and boozy warmth.

However, despite all the warmth Yodeler manages to avoid having too much alcohol flavor and hides its robust ABV well. Any trace of the 13+% melts into this full-bodied, well-carbonated brew.

You may not have to actually be in the Swiss Alps to enjoy this one, but if you were this is the sweet brew to have that’ll keep you warm throughout the night and just may have you yodeling at the moon.
